Conducting Background Checks

Hi, how are you? I'm Kelly Sanchez, one of your Church Volunteer Central member service representatives. I've recently been asked to contribute to The Inside Track about common member service questions. Today I'd like to talk to you about a topic that we hear about from our members on a daily basis. You tell us you know about the background-check feature of the membership, but what you need to know is how to use it.
First, let me give you a little background (no pun intended) information. Church Volunteer Central partners with LexisNexis, a leader within the industry. They offer our members discounted package prices that begin at $12 and include Social Security and address verification, a search of the National Criminal Database and the State Sexual Offenders Registry.
Assuming your Church Volunteer Central membership is current, opening your account with LexisNexis is fairly simple and won't take too long. Just follow the steps below and you'll be all set.
- Go to www.churchvolunteercentral.com, click on the blue member login box, and enter your e-mail address and login password.
- When the homepage appears, move the cursor to the toolbar on the left side of the page over Risk Management, and click on Background Checks in the menu that appears.
- On the Background Check page, you will find step-by-step instructions to open your account with LexisNexis. Please note the activation and verification processes take about five to six business days. You'll receive an e-mail inviting you to the brief LexisNexis online phone training, which must be completed before they will send your user ID and password.
While you are on the Background Check page, there is one more thing I want to make sure you are aware of: Background checks can only be ordered with an individual's permission. For your convenience, we have a permission/consent form that you can download. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page to find it or click here. You can print it out and make copies to have on hand or to include in volunteer packets.
Once the permission/consent forms have been completed and LexisNexis has issued you a user ID and password, you are ready to order background checks. You've made it through the longest part of the process! With the $12 package, results can be received within an hour or two.
