FACTOIDS At Group’s Volunteer Leadership Summit in May, Sue Waechter quoted statistics from the first Asia/Pacific Conference on Volunteerism, held in Seoul, South Korea. Percentages were given for the number of people in each nation who had given time as volunteers in the recent past, with the top three being: 1. United States—55% 2. Canada—24% 3. U.K. —13% Other countries had significantly lower percentages, getting down to several countries whose language doesn’t even have a word for volunteering! People in the United States are by far the most willing to serve. Don’t let anyone thwart your recruiting efforts by telling you that people are too busy to serve. You’re not trying to get people to step out and be different; you’re encouraging them to join the American bandwagon! |
